GREECE TOPS JAPAN IN INTERNATIONAL HOOPS - Daily Yomiuri, July 15, 2005

 Polymnia Saregkou scored 23 points to lead Greece to a 73-58 win over Japan in the opener of the three-game women’s basketball series on Thursday in Tokyo.

 It was a repeat performance for Greece, which edged Japan 93-91 in the preliminary group round at the Athens Olympics.

 The teams will move to Asahikawa for the second game Saturday and end series on Sunday in Sapporo.

  Polymnia Saregkou landed a two-point basket to lead Greece to a 73-58 win over Japan in the opener of the three-game women’s basketball exhibition series on Thursday.

  Saregkou unleashed the shot 5:09 into the second period to give Greece a 25-24 lead and they never looked back.

  The two teams will move to Asahikawa, northern Japan, for the second game Saturday and end the series on Sunday in Sapporo.

 SAPPORO (Kyodo) Evina Maltsi scored a game-high 25 points as Greece blew past Japan in a 57-52 victory for a sweep of their three-game friendly series in women’s basketball on Sunday. Japan’s Yuko Oga went 5- for – 11 from the field and had 13 points for the hosts, who took a 30-25 lead at halftime before Greece rebounded to tie the game 43-43 in the third quarter at Hokkaido prefectural sports center.

 SAPPORO – Athens Olympic quarterfinalist Greece beat Japan’s women’s basketball team 57-52 on Sunday to complete a 3-0 exhibition series sweep over the hosts.

After the score was 43-43 at the end of the third period, the visitors put on a late charge including two three-pointers for their third straight win.

Greece came from behind to win the first game 75-66 in Tokyo on Thursday and also the second game 73-63 in Asahikawa on Saturday.

With the score tied 43-43 at the end of the third period, the visitors put on a late charge including two three-pointers for their third straight win.
