On 9th February, a very successful event was organized by Matsue local municipal authorities, dedicated to Greece and the Olympic Games of Athens 2004. In parallel, this event was held in commemoration of the centennial anniversary of Lefcadio Hearn s death, the well acknowledged Greek Irish author, who spent most of his life at Matsue. Mrs Elena Triantafillou, First Secretary of the Embassy of Greece, was invited to address a speech in front of an audience of 300 guests on the Greek culture, the Olympic Games as well as Lefcadio Hearn s childhood in his native island of Greece, Lefcada. Dinner followed, during which greek delicacies, drinks and sweets were served. A musical performance of the traditional Japanese instrument Biwa, inspired by Hearn s ghost story “Earless Hoichi”, ended the very successful night. |
